The day will start with a scenic drive through paniolo (cowboy) country and down the gorgeous Hamakua Coast.
A continental breakfast will be served at the Honolii Mountain Outpost with baked goods and fresh Kona coffee. You will also have the opportunity to explore the trails here, and swim or kayak in a gorgeous 100 foot tall waterfall.

Make a brief stop at Adventure Store in Hilo to pick up provisions and try out the climbing wall. The tour will then be continuing on to the National Park, let your guide share the unique wonders of the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Hawaii. Enjoy several interpretive walks in the Park including visits to active volcanic craters and steam vents, a walk through the famous Thurston Lava Tube, and a visit to the fascinating Jaggar Museum. The rich history of the Park makes for a fascinating narrative as only our guides can tell it. On the return drive to Kona, stop at the famous black sand beach of Punaluu where you may see giant sea turtles relaxing in the sun. The perfect visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!

What To Know

Pickup Locations: This tour begins with pickups at designated locations in Kona and Waikoloa.

Duration: Approximately 12 hours depending on pick up and drop off locations.

What to Bring: Towel, video and/or still cameras, government issued ID, and tour vouchers.

What to Expect: Moderate air temperatures at sea level with cooler temperatures at the higher elevations of the drive from Kona to Hilo and some parts of the Park, cool water temperatures, occasional rain showers, walks across uneven, rocky terrain including the recent black lava flows and flights of stairs, tour locations created just for our guests, red lava will not be seen on this tour, drive from Kona to Hilo is approximately 2.5 hours with stops along the way.

What to Wear: Comfortable clothes in layers, shorts are fine, with swimsuit (either under clothes or bring to change into), light jacket or sweater, sunglasses and hat, comfortable closed-toe shoes (sandals and flip-flops will not be accepted).

Guests should be able to negotiate stairs and walk for 20 minutes unassisted, all ages can be accommodated with the following restrictions:

* State law requires child safety seats for all guests under 4 years of age (we’re happy to supply seats at no charge with advance notice)

* Booster seats required for all guests between ages 4 and 7 and under 4 feet 9 inches tall and 80 pounds weight (we’re happy to supply seats at no charge with advance notice)

* Guests under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult

* Volcanic emissions, including sulfur gas, may affect those with respiratory concerns

* Participants should be prepared for immediate evacuation in accordance with directions given by County, State and/or Federal officials
